Mike Bond is in his first year as the Media Relations Intern at Oakland University.  Bond is the primary contact for men’s and women’s swimming and men’s and women’s track and field.  He began his duties, January 8, 2008.

Bond brings 19 years of experience to Oakland.  He got his start in sports information as a student assistant and then volunteer assistant at Eastern Michigan from 1987-99. Bond took statistics at all home men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball games, updated records for all sports, was the primary contact for men’s and women’s cross country and indoor and outdoor track (1994-99) and women’s tennis (1997-99). He was also responsible for press releases, and the design and publication of media guides and assisting in the daily office operations.

From January 2000 to the end of May 2003, Bond was the assistant sports information director at San Francisco State. While at SFSU, he was the primary contact for men’s and women’s cross country, volleyball, women’s basketball, wrestling, men’s and women’s track, baseball and softball. He helped to maintain the athletic Web site, was co-director of meet results and director of press box operations for the 2001 CCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and tri-meet director of the 2003 RMAC/NCAA Division II West Regional Wrestling Championships.  In addition, all three of his wrestling media guides were ranked among the top 20 in the country by Amateur Wrestling News and among the top six in the country by Wrestling USA.

During the 2003-04 school year, Bond served as the assistant sports information director at the University of Texas-Pan American.  He helped to establish a new athletic Web page, and coordinated the NCAA Division I All-Independent selections for men’s and women’s golf, women’s basketball and women’s tennis and the NCAA Division I, II and III All-Independent selections for softball. Bond was also the lone staff member in the office over the last four months of the school year.

Bond headed back west, to Cal State Monterey Bay, serving as the coordinator of sports information and marketing from January, 2005 thru June 2006.  In addition to his SID duties, he was also responsible attracting donors and sponsors as well as running all athletic sport camps.  Bond was the first full-time SID in CSUMB history.

Bond returned to the Midwest as the sports information director at Graceland (Iowa).  He was responsible for all coverage of 34 varsity and junior varsity teams for the Yellowjackets.  It was at Graceland, that Bond finally got a national championship ring, as the men’s soccer team won the NAIA national championship.

A native of Warren, Mich., Bond has a B.S. in History with a minor in English language and literature from Eastern Michigan.  He is single and resides in Holly.
