Shannon Krugsrud was one of the greatest swimmers to participate at Oakland University.

As a freshman, then Shannon O’Connell, qualified for the Division I national championships under the old Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW), an outstanding accomplishments at that time. After swimming as a freshman and sophomore, she took the 1977-78 year off to marry men’s swimmer Jared Krogsrud and have their first baby. Shannon returned to Oakland in the fall of 1978 and continued her outstanding swimming career. At one time or another at Oakland she held school records in the 50,100,200 and 500 freestyle, and the 100 and 200 individual medley, the 100 breaststroke, and with the 400 medley and 400 and 800 freestyle relay squads.
