| The most dominant womens
basketball player in the GLIAC, and perhaps the entire state, during the early eighties
was Linda Krawford. Linda is Oaklands all-time scoring leader and its first
two-time All-American. Linda is in Oaklands
career top ten in eight different categories. Her 2,400 points are the most by both a
Pioneer and a womens basketball player from any school in Michigan. She is also the
career leader in field goals and free throws made and attempted, and is second in scoring
average and rebounds. Her 52 points scored against Michigan Tech on February 21, 1983, is
still a school record and was an NCAA Division II record until last year. The All-American
in 1982 and 1983 was also selected as GLIAC Player of the Year for those two seasons, and
was a three-time All-GLIAC Choice.
Lindas individual success meant great success for the
Pioneers. Oakland posted perfect 16-0 league records in 1982 and 1983, earning bids to the
NCAA Tournament both years. The 1982 unit won the regional crown and advanced to the
national semi-finals. Oaklands four-year record with Linda was 87-29.
Linda earned a Bachelor of Science degree in management
from Oakland. She is now retired from basketball after playing professionally overseas for
many years. |
