| When you talk about the great
male swimmers in Oakland history, the first name that comes to mind is Tracy Huth. Huth
was the dominant swimmer in the NCAA Division II in the early eighties. Tracy was a three-time Division II Swimmer of the Year, earning his
honors in 1981, 1982, and 1984. During his four years as a swimmer he won the maximum 24
All-America honors. Huth captured eight individual national championship and won four more
with relay squads. He won his individual titles in the medley events, earning the national
crown in both the 200 and 400 all four years at Oakland. Huth was also a 24-time All-GLIAC
champion and was selected the GLIAC Swimmer of the Year in 1981, 1982, and 1984.
Hand-in-hand with Huths individual success was
OUs team success. OU finished second nationally three times and third once, while
capturing four straight GLIAC titles.
Huth earned a bachelor of art s in social studies with a
minor in secondary education from Oakland. He was presented with the Presidents
Award presented by Dr. Joseph Champagne, and served on the Hill House Dorm Council for two
years. After serving as coach of the Oakland Live Yer program for a year. Tracy is
now the head coach of the OU womens swimming team, and has the squad among the
national championship contenders.
Tracy and his wife, Renea, also an Oakland graduate, live
in Davisburg. |
