| Fred Carbonero has been a factor
of the Oakland University intercollegiate program for many years. Fred has donated
equipment to several programs and enabled the athletic department to buy additional
equipment at cost. He has contributed financially to numerous programs, both in outright
gifts and through the Presidents Club. He was instrumental in the early development
of the Golden Eagles Golf Boosters Organization - which annually raises more than $8,000
for golf scholarships - and has been a supporter of the celebrity roast series, which has
raised a considerable amount of money for the mens basketball program. However,
swimming is probably the area where he has made his greatest contribution, both
financially and through the donation of such swimming aids as pull-buoys and kick boards.
In addition, Fred was one of the original sponsors of the Hall of Honor. Fred is the type of person who will not only drop by and say hello
but usually brings something with him for the staff to munch on. He and his wife, Shirley,
have one son, Kurt, who recently joined Carbonero in his Pull-Buoy business.
The athletic department, Oakland University and the
community as a whole have truly benefitted from the presence and support of this fine
individual.
Fred Carbonero, we take pleasure in honoring you in this
way and say thank you for your friendship. |
