Tom Boyd was the epitome of a student-athlete at Oakland University. An outstanding swimmer, Boyd was a 10-time All-American at OU and a national champion. He was also an excellent student, graduating with honors and earning an NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship.

Boyd’s specialty was the 200 IM, earning All-American honors in that event all four years at OU. He was the national champion in the 200 IM as a senior in 1978. His other national honors were earned in the freestyle and medley relay events. Boyd is a former record holder at OU, also in the 200 IM. OU placed in the top five nationally as a team all four of Boyd’s years at OU, including third twice.

Boyd also piled up the honors academically at Oakland. He was an Academic All-American, a student life scholar, in the who’s who of American College students, a member of the business school honor society, and a resident adviser for two years.

Tom earned a degree in business from Oakland in 1979, and received a masters of Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University in 1983. Tom is currently a manager of product planning for Motorola, Inc.

Currently living in Boca Raton, Florida, Boyd is very active in master’s swimming and is treasurer and registrar for the Florida Gold Coast Swimming Club.
