| One of the best of the Pioneers
on the baseball diamond in the late 1970's was Mark Bielski. Mark was fixture in
centerfield for the four years before the program was initially dropped in 1980. Bielski holds seven major career Pioneer baseball records. He is on
the top of the all-time charts in games played, at bats, hits, doubles, triples, total
bases, and runs batted in. Mark hit a career-best .364 in OUs 1978 GLIAC
championship season. He finished with a career batting average of .350. Mark, who holds
the team record for longest hitting streak at 16 games, was honored by the GLIAC all four
years, twice as a first team selection and twice as honorable mention. Mark was a
defensive specialist as well, going errorless in all 32 games that he appeared in during
the 1980 season. His percentage and errorless streak still stand as school records for an
OU outfielder.
Mark earned a bachelor of science degree in Political
Science for Oakland in 1980. He is currently the owner and manager of a Sunoco Service
Station in his home town of Hazel Park.
Mark and his wife, Annette, also an Oakland graduate, live
in Novi with their three daughters. |
