-          the Clearinghouse will prompt you to send an official copy of your high school transcripts directly from your school to the Clearinghouse address.

-          the Clearinghouse will prompt you to send all ACT or SAT test scores directly from the testing agency to their address.  (if taking the SAT or ACT exam, fill in the code 999 and the agency will automatically send your scores to the Clearinghouse – scores reported on high school transcripts will not be accepted).

PRELIMINARY STATUS

After the above steps have been completed, and all documents have landed, the Clearinghouse will be able to report your Preliminary Status.  Our institution will be given a Prelim status in two categories:

  • Academic Status
  • Amateur Status

Academic Status:  The Clearinghouse takes your high school transcript and determines if you have completed a minimum of 14 core courses.  (To find your particular high school’s core courses, click on the “List of Core Courses” off of the Clearinghouse website).  Your core GPA from those courses is then matched to an inverted scale of an SAT or ACT test score.  More information on the core courses and “sliding scale” can be found in the NCAA Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete:   http://www.ncaa.org/library/general/cbsa/2006-07/2006-07_cbsa.pdf

Amateur Status:  The Clearinghouse will look at your answers to the 4 questions related to your athletic participation leading up to your enrollment in college.  They will identify any amateurism concerns.

In both categories, academic and amateurism, your preliminary status will read

PRELIM = Y (yes, all requirements have been met), or PRELIM = N (no, you are missing requirements).

FINAL CERTIFICATION

In order to be certified through the Clearinghouse, FINAL steps have to be made:

  • After graduating, have an official version of your high school transcript with proof of graduation sent directly to the Clearinghouse address.
  • Be sure you have had ALL test scores (ACT or SAT) sent directly from the agency to the Clearinghouse address.
  • Sometime after APRIL 7th, 2007, go in and UPDATE your answers to the athletic participation questionnaire.  THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT YOUR ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONNAIRE FOR FINAL CERTIFICATION IF THEY HAVE NOT BEEN UPDATED AFTER THE APRIL 7TH DATE.

After all of this has been done, you will then get a FINAL status.

If your final status reads FINAL = Y Division I certified:

You are eligible for practice, competition, and institutional financial aid in your first year of enrollment.

If your final status reads FINAL = N  Division I not certified

You are not eligible for practice, competition, or institutional financial aid (that is not need-based) in your first year of enrollment
